Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos featuring commentary and analysis of the representations of women that are prevalent in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines women's roles in pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. The site also has the director of operations. Aiming to dispel the myths that are associated with women in pop media, she is also working on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and others on the internet. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. In addition to being an acclaimed public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism since a early age. In 2009, when she was still studying at university, she created the Feminist Frequency site. She was a young woman who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet to examine the how gender is represented in games. However, she became the victim of online harassment. The attack wasn't enough to halt her. In fact, it strengthened her commitment to be a feminist as well as media critic. She has won many awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit explores the portrayals of women in pop culture today.
