The shadows that she noticed on the lawn inspired her to develop a technique, which does not, however, paint the object she chose onto canvas. This way, the selected subject is transformed into an image. This happens especially with living objects or those that will perish like fruit or human beings. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting that is extremely ephemeral nature, is apparent. The only work from her work that is preserved is the photograph. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved by combining the two techniques of painting and photographing. The result is a flattened, two dimensional image. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painting into the surrounding three-dimensional environment that allows the model to be a part of their own world. This is a way of breaking down the barriers between painting, photography, performance and installation.
